Meet Barbara Banks, RScP
In September 2012, Barbara came to Seaside to take Foundations and in 2016 became a Licensed Practitioner. She feels fortunate to have grown up with Ernest Holmes and Science of Mind radio programs playing as the family got ready for work and school.
She and her two sisters grew up in Long Beach, the daughters of teachers. They moved to Palos Verdes in 1975 and attended the Redondo Beach Church of Religious Science.
Barbara graduated from Miraleste High School and in 1984 from CSU Long Beach with a BS in Accounting. While in school, she worked in the accounting department of Sii Servco and Arlon, but realized her passion was teaching K-6. In 1985, Steve and Barbara married and Barbara was hired by the Los Angeles Unified School District, granted an emergency credential and a first grade classroom. She enrolled at CSULA and earned her California Clear Credential.
Because Steve is a career Naval officer on active duty, Barbara left teaching temporarily and became a stay-at- home mom to create a stable home life for their young family. She volunteered in the classroom, for the kids’ sports teams, band events, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts where she received the Unit Volunteer of the Year award.
Currently, Barbara substitutes in the Poway school system as a classroom teacher or in a school’s Health Office. She is an active volunteer at Seaside. Steve and Barbara live in Rancho Penasquitos. They have two daughters, Heather and Kailey, and a son, Jeremy. Kailey is a veterinarian and is married to Tyler. Jeremy is attending Texas A&M.
Barbara has always been an avid reader, curious and fascinated by how religion and science complement each other. She leads and promotes her students to delight in the process of the self-discovery of their own unique talents and strengths.
